Mediation is a process where parties with the assistance of one or more mediators can resolve disputes. During mediation process each party expresses its views and opinions during the proceedings, and with the assistance of a mediator, they perceive their positions and interests in an effort to achieve a fair resolution that is acceptable to all parties.

Successfully completed training of new mediators from the areas outside of Podgorica

Obuka_novih_posrednika_MilocerBetween November 24- 27, 2011, in cooperation with the UNDP Office in Podgorica, the Center for Mediation of Montenegro organized another basic training program for mediators, in accordance to the rules of the Ministry of Justice of Montenegro. The training took place in Milocer and was this time aimed at  students who come from areas outside of Podgorica.

Four-day training, where the speakers were Miroslav Knežević and Danijela Vukčević, familiarized the participants with the concepts and benefits of mediation, as well as with the process and stages of this form of alternative dispute resolution.

Each of the he participants has successfully completed the training,  received the certificates, and thus, fulfilled the conditions for possibly obtaining title of a mediator, awarded by the Ministry of Justice.

Regional Conference on Juvenile Justice held in Becici, Budva

Regionalna_konferencijaRegional Conference on Juvenile Justice was held on  November 18, 2011 in Becici, Budva.  The Conference was opened by Deputy Minister of Justice of Montenegro, Branka Lakočević and Chief Representative of UNICEF in Montenegro, Benjamin Perks, where Miroslav Knezevic, Director of the Center for Mediation of Montenegro and Vesna Pavićević, branch coordinator of the Center in Bijelo Poljem, also had a word.

The aim of the Conference, which in addition to participants from Montenegro was also attended by numerous participants from the region, was to exchange experiences and information in this area, as well as to present the results achieved in this area in Montenegro.

The Conference also adopted the following conclusions:

1. That all countries in the region are dedicated to the development of mediation between victims and juvenile roffenders;

2. That cooperation between the countries is of great importance for the development of this area in the region;

3. That each state in accordance with its social moment, make ​​mediation in this area a very important issue in the legal and social system;

4. That individual countries will continue the activities that will contribute to the continued development of mediation in this area;

5. Finally, it is necessary to work on continuous education of experts in this field.

Completed training of the new mediators

Dobuka_posrednikauring the period of 26 to 29 October, the Center for Mediation with the cooperation of the UNDP Office in Podgorica, organized a basic training of the new mediators.

The trainees were introduced to the concepts of alternative dispute resolution, types of mediation, legal framework, principles and ethical issues in mediation, as well as skills and stages of the process. Upon completion of the training, the participants received a certificate, which made it possible for the candidates to become mediators, once awarded a title by the Ministry of Justice.

The training of new mediators from the area outside Podgorica, will be held in Milocer, from 24 to 27 November, 2011.

Study visit to Vienna

studijska_posjeta_BecuIn order to implementation of the project supported by the UNICEF Office in Podgorica, which concerns the promotion of mediation in juvenile justice, representatives of the Montenegrin institutions conducted a study visit to Vienna, in the period from 17 to 20 of October. Participants of the study visit were given the opportunity to visit the Ministry of Justice of Austria, the High Court in Vienna, as well as the Neustart organization, which deals with the implementation of diversion orders.
